This site collects very little, and this page says exactly what, where it goes, and how to get rid of it. If anything here is unclear, email me and ask.

What is collected
Contact and chemistry-call forms (/contact/, /chemistry-call/)
Always Name, email address
Only if you write it What you want to look at together, where you are now, what you hope to get from the call, other notes; and for consulting enquiries: organisation, team, role, enquiry type, timeline, budget range. Also recorded: the page you came from and your language setting.
Essay notifications (opt-in checkbox on the forms above — there is no separate signup form)
Always Email address, whether you opted in
Email delivery records
Always Recipient address, and whether each email was delivered, opened, or had a link clicked
Site usage (Google Analytics)
Always A cookie-based visit identifier, pages viewed, clicks on the contact links, browser and device type, approximate region, and how you arrived
What it is used for
- Replying to your enquiry and providing coaching or consulting you ask for
- Sending new essays to people who asked for them, and honouring unsubscribes
- Checking that email actually arrives, and whether it is worth sending at all
- Understanding which writing is read, so the site gets better
How long it is kept
- Enquiry and application records
- 3 years from our last contact, then deleted
- Subscriber records
- Until you unsubscribe. After that we keep only the address itself, so that we do not email you again by mistake.
- Email delivery records
- 2 years from the send date
- Site usage records
- Deleted automatically once the retention period configured in Google Analytics passes (at most 14 months).

Sent outside Korea
The services below are used to run this site, under Article 28-8(1)3 of the Personal Information Protection Act — processing entrusted for the performance of a contract, disclosed here in place of separate consent. You can refuse by not submitting a form and by blocking cookies; the site stays readable either way.

Your rights
- You can ask to see, correct, or delete what we hold about you, or ask us to stop processing it. Email jay@whywhatmatters.com and I handle it myself — there is no queue.
- Every essay email has a one-click unsubscribe link at the bottom. It stops the essay stream only — it does not delete an enquiry you sent separately.
- Marking the email as spam works too — the address is added to a suppression list and stops receiving mail.
Cookies
This site sets cookies only through Google Analytics, to tell repeat visits apart. There is no advertising or retargeting pixel on this site.
You can refuse them in your browser settings (Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies), or install Google’s opt-out add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. Refusing them does not affect anything you can read or do here.
How it is protected
- Everything travels over HTTPS.
- The site itself cannot read the enquiry table. Submissions go through a single database function that can only insert — it cannot select, and it accepts only a fixed set of columns.
- Only the operator has access to the stored records.
